GE Dishwashers recalled for starting fires

GE announced last week, it’s recalling 1.3 million dishwashers due to fire hazard.  This voluntary recall includes the following models;

  • GE
  • GE Adora
  • GE Eterna
  • GE Profile
  • Hotpoint

The heating elements of these dishwashers can fail and cause fires.  There have been 7 reports of fires, 3 of which resulted in extensive property damage.  The good news is no one’s been hurt.

The dishwashers were sold nationwide from 2006 to 2009, cost between $350 and $850 and come in a variety of colors including white, black, bisque, stainless and clean steel.

If you have one of these dishwashers, the Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends,

  • Stop using the dishwasher immediately
  • Disconnect the electric supply by shutting off the fuse or circuit breaker

Do not attempt to return your dishwasher to the store where it was purchased.  GE will provide free repairs or rebates toward new dishwashers.  For more information, people can,
