The Texas Department of Insurance presented a report to a state Senate committee on Tuesday, July 10th. The report showed home insurance increased 21% since 2009. It also listed the perils that have caused the most insured losses over the past 10 years as,
- Hail – $7.6 billion in losses
- Water damage $7.3 billion in losses
- Hurricane winds – $6.2 billion in losses
- Fire – $4.3 billion in losses
The first and third ones didn’t surprise me. They’re weather related and I’ve never been able to control the weather. The last one happens and is exacerbated by drought (we’re still not through it). The second on though is something we can all do something about perhaps with regular maintenance. What are your thoughts? Can we prevent water claims and better maintain our plumbing? Share with us what you’re doing.
