Personal Liability Insurance and Umbrella Policies

I was talking with a prospective client the other day who’s asked us to review her home and car insurance. She’s been with the same carrier for over 10 years and wants a second opinion on whether she’s paying more for her insurance than she should. After asking questions about her home, car, and driving habits, I asked her if her annual income was more than $125,000. That, combined with a few details she shared indicated she should probably consider an umbrella policy. Let’s review what one is, the additional coverage it provides, and who should consider such a policy.

Why Should You Have an Insurance Review?

Car and Home Insurance; Package or Not?

I talked with a prospective client last week. We’d worked together in the past and he wanted to see if I could help him lower what he was paying for all his insurance policies. As it turned out, the auto quote I presented him was about $1,000 lower than his current rate, and the umbrella was about the same as what he was currently paying. The issue was he had a lower rate on the home and he wasn’t sure what to do.

Before, and after, our two person tent became our abode for three nights, we stayed in a condo. Like many condos in Colorado’s ski areas, this one is a family’s second home, and it led me to think about home insurance for second homes.

Umbrella Insurance Pricing Factors

I met with a client earlier this week for coffee at a Starbucks in Frisco. One of the topics she wanted to discuss was her and her husband’s umbrella insurance policy. Her two questions were did they have enough coverage and what factors influenced the policy’s rate. I thought they were excellent questions and should be addressed as separate posts in our blog.
