They accidentally clip another car while passing. No one got hurt, but it’s your friend’s fault and your car.
If you think Texas car insurance rates are on the rise, it’s not your imagination. Based on a report released earlier this year by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, Texas premiums now rank 11th highest in the nation. Two years ago, we were ranked 14th highest in the nation. The average Texas car insurance premium, based on the 2009 data used for the NAIC report (the most recent nationwide data available), is now $1,022 a year. The national annual average rate is $901.
Sheri and I had the pleasure of attending the wedding of a dear friend last month. The bride looked stunningly beautiful and the groom had the look of someone completely smitten, knowing he was blessed beyond his wildest imagination. It was truly a delightful experience to celebrate them with their family and mutual friends. The bride’s dad performed the ceremony which made it very special.
Unless you’ve totally unplugged from all news media and the internet over the past week, you’ve heard of the Heartbleed bug. The Heartbleed bug (it’s not a virus) is a vulnerability in the OpenSSL library, the software that makes your website and other sites secure when a person is reviewing banking records, making a purchase from your company, or updating their information or method of payment in their on-line account.
I received a call from a client last year. She’d been in an accident and like most people I’ve worked with, wanted to know what to do. I confirmed she was not physically hurt, we reviewed what had happened, provided her with her car insurance policy number and the phone number for claims, then outlined a plan on how to best proceed. She drives a Lexus RX series so she had the car delivered to the shop of her choice which she gets to do according to Texas state law.
The Detroit auto show started last week and runs through January 26th. There are the debuts of new models from domestic and international car manufacturers, concept cars, and lots of new technology. Chief among the new offerings arriving in cars are those technologies that are grouped in a category referred to as advanced car safety systems. They aren’t quite as sexy as the new Corvette, but if they better protect us from accidents, we’ll be just as appreciative of them.
No one wants to think of someone else raising their children. But if tragedy strikes and both parents are gone, do you want a court that has no personal knowledge of you or your children and their needs deciding who will raise them? Do you want a court who knows nothing about your values and religious beliefs making that decision?
