Federal Regulations Released for Autonomous Cars

On September 20th, the U.S. Department of Transportation announced 15 safety guidelines for autonomous vehicles. The purpose of the guidelines is to provide guidance for traditional automakers and companies such as Uber, Google, and Tesla as they move toward releasing driverless vehicles. MetLife and Too Big To Fail

In January, MetLife, the largest insurance company by assets, was deemed as systemically important, or “too big to fail,” by the Financial Stability Oversight Council. In other words, regulators believe MetLife is so big (over $902 billion in assets) and entwined with the financial system that it could threaten the economy if it collapsed similar to what we saw happen with AIG in 2008.

Car Insurance and Autonomous Cars

General Motors CEO Mary Barra announced in early September Cadillac will introduce a model in 2016 which will be equipped with its Super Cruise technology. Super Cruise provides, at least initially, the ability for the car to drive itself on the freeway by handling the duties of accelerating, braking, and steering the car.
