Insurance and politics may sound like strange bedfellows but they aren’t. They share the same bed more often than most people realize and the impact can be profound for individuals and business whether it plays out on the national or state level. Such is the case since Presidential Candidate Donald Trump became President-Elect. Let’s look at two instances which will unfold after January 20, 2017.
Sheri and I recently watched a documentary on tiny homes. We enjoyed it and talked about could we live in one, what would it look like, and whether Sheri could build it (she likes power tools). I began thinking about home insurance for tiny homes; which carriers will write a policy for that, what issues may need to be considered, and what underwriters will want to know.
Before we launch the frenzy of the Christmas shopping season and kick off the march to Christmas, I’d like to take a deep breath and share with you what I’m grateful for both personally and professionally.
What was your first job? Aside from babysitting neighborhood kids for $1.00 an hour, mine was helping my uncle Jere sell women’s shoes at his store on the west side of Birmingham when I was 15. I didn’t have to worry its impact on my parent’s car insurance rate because I wasn’t a licensed driver and I rode the bus across town to Jere’s store.
518! That’s the number of earthquakes measuring 3.0 or higher in magnitude which have occurred in Oklahoma since the start of this year. A 5.0 magnitude quake struck near Cushing last week and a 5.8 magnitude tremor struck in September. Luckily it’s been almost a year since one occurred in North Texas. What’s interesting to think about is what would happen across North Texas if a quake with a magnitude of 5.8 struck here!
I spoke to a group of people today about car insurance, specifically what a typical Texas policy includes and how to determine the right amount of coverage for each person. I enjoyed the interaction and questions that arose from the presentation and felt like everyone learned how to better evaluate their car insurance needs.
