Two Car Insurance Claims with Different Approaches

In the past week, I’ve had two conversations with two different clients. Both clients were involved in accidents where they were hit by the other driver; one was rear ended by a commercial vehicle and the other was struck by a car that changed multiple lanes in order to attempt making the exit. The question both clients asked was the same, “How should they file their car insurance claim?”

Car Insurance Claims and Police Reports

My youngest son was involved in a car accident about 10 days ago. The good news is he was not injured although he is a little sore from the airbag deploying and sustained some minor cuts from flying glass when the driver’s window shattered. It could have been a lot worse. His mom called me to let me know he’d been in an accident and that he was not hurt. She also asked me a question related to filing a car insurance claim that is worth sharing.

Car Insurance Rates and Collar Color

Consumer Reports released a study last week which was published online that appeared on Yahoo and various other websites. It’s one of the most interesting articles I’ve read on car insurance pricing from a consumer organization in some time. They usually call me when their son or daughter is about to get their learner’s permit to ask several questions relating to their car insurance policy and their teen who’s about to drive. The questions include when they have to add them to their car insurance policy and does it make a difference whether they do the classroom or parent led driver training. The brave parents want to know what it will cost to add their teen driver to their car insurance policy when they get their license!

Car Insurance Discounts and Safety Technology

Car insurance companies have offered discounts for a variety of safety technologies for over 20 years. Early on these discounts were for anti-lock brakes and driver side airbags. The discount for airbags shifted as airbags moved from protecting the driver only, to both the driver and front seat passenger, to side impact and curtain airbag configurations to protect against head trauma. Some insurance companies even offered discounts for cars equipped with daytime running lights because they were easily visible to other motorists on the road.

Dangerous Driving Days for Teen Drivers

Many teens will be getting their first driver’s license and have the opportunity to drive on their own. Even if it’s to chauffer a younger sibling to ball practice or run to the store to pick up some last minute item for that night’s dinner, they are driving! What most don’t realize is summer is one of the most deadly times for teen drivers.

What Is Usage Based Car Insurance?

What is usage based car insurance? It’s one of the most talked about changes in car insurance these days. It’s based on a pay as you go approach for car insurance pricing, which is much different from how car insurance has been priced. Insurance companies who provide usage based insurance, or UBI, are looking for safe drivers who don’t drive a lot and don’t mind having their driving monitored.
