4 Home Insurance Rating Factors That Aren’t Related to Your Home

Last week, I gave a presentation to a group of people on Home Insurance Frequently Asked Questions. It was a delightful time that spurred even more questions from the audience. This gave me the idea to take some of the points and write a series of posts on them, many of which I write about annually. With that as our guide, let’s look at four factors insurance companies use to determine your annual rate that have nothing to do with your home. They do, however, have everything to do with you!

Personal Liability Oriented Home Insurance Options

There are three areas or categories home insurance options tend to fall into. Last week I opened this series with a look at property-oriented options. These options provide additional coverage that either extends the base limits of coverage contained within a home, renters, or condo insurance policy, or they provide additional coverage that isn’t a part of the base policy. In this week’s post, we’ll examine options that provide coverage for personal liability.

Who knows what will happen by then! Regardless of who’s at fault, I thought it would be interesting to look at how such a shutdown impacts individuals and insurance.

What kind of insurance policy is needed to protect personal property or contents while it’s in storage? This was the question a friend of mine texted me the other day. 2017’s Impact on Texas Home Insurance in 2018

One of the sayings I heard after moving to Dallas was, “If you’re tired of the weather in Texas, just wait a few hours and it will change.” That may not be entirely accurate, but our weather does tend to be filled with surprises. 2017 held a couple of major surprises for Texans and its effect on home and car insurance will be felt this year. Let’s look at what happened and how it will impact home insurance this year.

Home Insurance and Historic Homes

While Dallas is renowned for tearing down old homes and replacing them with new ones that are “bigger and better,” there are some areas in east Dallas, Lakewood, the Park Cities and parts of Fort Worth near TCU that have some beautiful, stately homes built at the turn of the past century. Some of the homes appear on National and Texas historic home registries and more reside in historic districts. How does writing a home insurance policy for a home in a historic district or on a registry differ appear from writing one built in the 1950’s or that was just finished?
