I’m helping a couple in the Southlake / Colleyville area with their insurance policies. We redid their home policy and are discussing options on the husband’s life insurance. We began the process by reviewing what he has now and discussing what he wants to accomplish. I was talking with Jason Hull a couple of weeks ago after the April meeting of the D/FW FinCon Chapter. Our local band of merry bloggers, which is led by Philip Taylor (www.ptmoney.com), and founder of FinCon, meets once a month to discuss blogging issues related to personal finance. Jason’s a friend and fee only financial planner in Crowley, Texas (www.hullfinancialplanning.com/) and we were discussing blogging topics. He suggested a topic to me that was framed in a question, “Can you get a legitimate on-line life insurance quote?” He was smiling and even I knew that meant he was asking me a question he already had the answer to.
?Say the words “life insurance” and most people will scatter faster than you can say multi-level marketing! Why is that? They’ve either been sold or over promised or made to feel guilty or scared by people that should be there to help them. The goal in our blog is to demystify, explain and empower each person so they can make informed decisions that are in their best interest.
?Shopping for life insurance can be prompted by life events. A marriage, your first home, the first pregnancy or the arrival of a new baby are examples of such motivational life events. Regardless of which life event it is that motivates the search, I thought it was appropriate to visit this question, “Which member of a couple should have a life policy?”
Buying a life insurance policy is different than purchasing any other type of insurance policy. Home insurance is pretty straightforward. What amount of coverage does it take to replace the home if it experiences a total loss? Car insurance is not much different. What kind of car, truck or SUV do you drive and what kind of protection do you need to protect you financially if you’re at fault?
